    I’ve got the weirdest thing.

I’m currently running about 10-12 sites on one of those “unlimited sites, unlimited bandwidth, etc.” hosts. They have wordpress installs through a Cpanel interface.

As I’ve said, I’ve got a number of them running all fine, but when I try to install this one particular domain name, the Admin section is all screwed up (white interface, transparent menus, the visual editor either doesn’t work or is white HTML text on a white background.

If I install wordpress in a different directory, using a different domain, everything is fine. If I copy that directory over and replace the wp-config file with the one for the problem domain it’s messed up again. So, it’s not a permissions issue, or an incomplete download.

If I delete and re-install, same problems…and it’s only variations on this domain name (.com and .ca). The serving side of wordpress is fine, the admin side doesn’t work.

    Any suggestions?

  • From my experience ‘Unlimited’ means that for an average user it will appear ‘Unlimited’ for them. But is looks like you are not an average user and more of a ‘super user’.

What is the URL for faulty site and good site?

You mentioned that “If I copy that directory over and replace the wp-config file with the one for the problem domain it’s messed up again.”

Looks like your wp-config.php may be corrupted.

Corruption can come from many sources, hacking, overloaded server (I had this problem previously), hardware error while installing WP,…

Can you rename the wp-config.php file and unistall WP and then re-install WP again? This is an empty site, right? nothing to lose?

I had actually opened up the wp-config file looking at it, but it was fine. Also, when I did the clean install, it created a new one.

Well, after messing around with the site for a while, I gave up and…wouldn’t you know it, the next day both sites started working just fine.

My guess would be an overloaded server that was timing out when it needed to transfer the files. Of course, since other sites on the same server worked fine, it doesn’t really explain it…but it’s my best guess.
