Admin screen not working

  • Repeating problem with admin screen. Symptoms include visual editor screen not visible and menu buttons not available, meta boxes frozen and no drop down box available. Inability to access functions in posts, pages and comments. I have tried various solutions such as cache refresh via F5, deactivating all plugins, uting Hotfix and Json data plugins to try to fix java script issues, reinstall clean wordpress version, install using twenty eleven theme only. In short the problem continues. I would be very grateful for any other suggestions or ideas. I’m not a programmer so apologies for lack of specific detail but I hope that someone out there knows answer to this one or how I can get to a stable situation on 3.3.1. Thanks

    I used that plugin at start of latest reinstallation but no joy.

    Have you tried using different browsers? Different machines?

    yes I tried different browsers and machines and same problem. I have fresh install now and problem reappeared again. Is it 3.3.1 issue? My host had advised me to use this version for security reasons but now I am getting to point of despair. What version should I downgrade to if I cannot get fix for 3.3.1.?

    Not that I know of (and I’m sure we would have seen more of this situations if it was). It really does sound like a unflushed jQuery problem to me (which is more jQuery/browser than WordPress).

    Thanks for your suggestions. I will try this approach but I really think that it is a wordpress & javascript issue as I have seen a number of other posts referring to similar problems with screen, visual editor and widgets meta boxes freezing. I think that the javascript solution suggested by rhyaniwyn in post below is the way to go on this but I do not know enough about javascript to search my code and find offending problem. Do you think that this is possible problem and do you have any suggestions for a tool that I could use as a layman to get this resolved. thanks

    Yes – it’s either a bad theme or a bad plugin.

    Hey guys, I have had the same problem for days now. I can’t imagine it being a theme or plugin problem since I deleted all files from my website and used a new database, manually installed the new 3.3.1 and worked with the standard theme and plugins hello dolly and akismet and I still had this issue. Even installing google libraries and hotfix 0.8 as the only plugins didn’t help. I’ve also cleared my cache on my mac under library/cache plus cleared all browsing data in chrome and safari.

    Does anybody have found a solution for this problem?

    Sebaztian here is a tip that helped me to get access to the widgets. You can add and delete them but drag and drop does not work.

    “Failing that use accessibility mode on the widget page – At top right select Screen Options -> Enable Accessibility Mode.

    ?’m still looking for a solution to visual editor white screen and missing menu buttons. Let me know if you get any solutions for that or complete solution for widgets.

    This is what worked for me:

    Add define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘128M’);

    to your config file and try that.

    and this

    define( ‘CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS’, false );
