After installing WP Staging and logging into my staging site, my WP admin panel is NOT showing “STAGING – [site name]” in the site title area like it’s supposed to. Since there’s no indication from the URL that I’m in the staging site, I’m concerned I’ll get confused and work on the wrong site. Is there a fix for this?

    Thanks,
    Nicole

    Hi Nicole,

if the url is not showing STAGING – [site name] chances are high that this is not the staging site you are working on.

The staging url MUST be yourdomain.com/name-staging-site/wp-admin

If it redirects to yourdomain.com/wp-admin you need to deactivate all security plugins, remove all custom admin redirections and start over creating the staging site.

Thanks, Rene. The URL shows as the original site URL, even though I had to re-login. So clearly it’s not the staging site.

So then I can’t create a staging site that’s an exact mirror of the original site, with security plug-ins? That’ll essentially be useless to me, because when I copy the staging site back to the original (which *does* have the security plug-ins and redirects), all the links and redirects will be broken. That doesn’t make a lot of sense, unless I’m missing something here.

At least you have to deactivate the security plugins and custom redirection plugins from the staging site. They are not needed there and they prevent logging to the staging site.

So then, how does it work to clone the staging site back to the original site, if the original site uses security plugins that modify directory and database names and redirect based on these? Won’t these be overwritten when the staging site is cloned back to the original, thus breaking the site?

Its not possible to merge back automatically changes so you have to do that manually. The security plugins must be excluded from that process than.

I am soory but there is no other technical way to bypass that.
