• We have had a local web designer taking care of our website until she recently just stopped corresponding or doing anything web related. We have some testimonials that we are trying to read and approve. We get the email notifications. When we try to log in to the admin section to review and approve using the /wp-admin/ at the end of our domain name, all we see is the header “Dashboard” and a blank box below that in the center column of the page, and 2 “WordPress” news sections.
We used to see so much more control to our website. We cannot get any response from our Web designer, so we are completely clueless as to what to do at this point.

ps I have been searching for more information, and they all say the same thing, add the wp-admin/ to the end of your domain and there is your control panel. Well its not there!

  • Do you have any menu items available to you, or are they missing completely?

Items that are missing from your dashboard might be able to be found by clicking on ‘Screen Options’ toward the top right.

If your menus and screen options are missing, we might have slightly bigger issues. Do you kow if your site was recently upgraded to WordPress 3.8? It may coincide with that

There are three menu(?) items (on the far left) 1) Dashboard 2)Profile 3)Collapse Menu.
We have not upgraded anything ourselves. It is like our Admin capabilities have been taken away from us.

That is actually exactly what it sounds like.

Could that have happened? I assume your designer had full access as an admin? I don’t want to presume such a thing happened, but I also would hate to give you things to try to fix a technical issue that doesn’t actually exist.

We think she may have transferred everything to some other person. After searching our emails, it does appear this is what happened. We do not want to do business with this other person. Is there a way to get control back without going through them. We paid the first web designer only. We were not given an option to choose another designer or administrator. In the email we found, they are wanting us to pay them starting in Jan. We want to move our hosting to someone else, but without access to the control panel, I do not think we can even do that.
Any suggestions, other than going through this other individual?

This thread explains how to change your user role to admin in your database:

You’ll need to use phpMyAdmin to do so – which means you’ll need access to your hosting – hopefully that’s not through the same person?
