• When logged into Admin area, the navigation bar on the left side (Dashboard, Post, Media, Appearance, etc.) doesn’t have titles, only icons. This makes it more difficult to find the resource I’m looking for. My theme is Astra (if that’s relevant) and my WP version is 5.5. I have been unable to locate any relevant help, so my question is: How do I restore the titles for the Admin navigation bar? Thank you!

  • You haven’t collapsed it by mistake have you? (Bottom icon is the toggle.)

That sounds logical, since I presumed it was something super simple like that. I had no idea what that icon did (even hovering over it produces no clues since it’s not a link but Javascript or something). However, I did try clicking it in my mad search for answers.

Sadly, it does nothing when I click it in Chrome, but when I opened the same page in Firefox and clicked it, the titles reappeared! Yay, Diabolo! I searched for 30 minutes online for that stupid-simple solution and found nothing! Maybe I wasn’t calling it the right name (admin navigation bar? dashboard sidebar menu?)

Of course, even when I come back and refresh the Chrome page (the browser I use), the titles still don’t show. So this seems like a Chrome issue. I will try restarting Chrome, checking updates, etc. Thanks so much for your quick and helpful response!

No worries, glad to hear you’re half-way there to resolving it. It would be nice if it had a tooltip attached to it I guess. I use Chrome and don’t have that issue so sadly I have no further pointers … longshot but perhaps the jQuery migrate helper plugin is required for your version of Chrome?
