Admin nag for ‘Changes that you made may not be saved’ when reloading

    Hi,

    I have noticed that the WordPress admin has got a continuous nag when reloading a page/post when editing within the admin.

    I have noticed this on a clean install with all other plugins deactivated apart from Yoast. I have disabled Gutenberg – so I am using the old default editor. When I reload the page I get the browser-based ‘Changes that you made may not be saved.’ message popup.

    If I disabled Yoast SEO plugin, the nag goes away when reloading on the same post/page editor.

    Is there anything in the Yoast SEO plugin that handles these notifications? Is this something that has been added recently? Can it be removed?

    I’m having the same issue with Yoast SEO 15.8 and Classic Editor 1.6 installed. I’m getting the “Changes that you made may not be saved.” popup every time I try to navigate away from a post whether I’ve made any changes or not.

    Deactivating either plugin makes it stop so it must be the combination of the two. This just started happening with a recent update of Yoast SEO. Considering that’s a pretty common combination, I’d like to find a solution to avoid the annoyance.

    It turns out this is actually a bug within WordPress core, I don’t believe this is related specifically to Yoast, or any plugin combination.

    There are a few tickets on it. But here is one of the main ones on the trac for it.
