• I have a lot of subscribers to my blog at https://www.airandaqua.com/blogs and the account name “admin” keeps making posts automatically! I deleted the admin account and then created my own account with the name admin, i then set it’s user role to subscriber so that it would not have the ability to post. IT STILL POSTS! I don’t know how to make it so that it will not post anymore, does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

    Clarification question.

    By this:

the account name “admin” keeps making posts automatically

    Do you mean
    a) Every time I make a post, it shows up as “Admin” as the author?
    b) There are posts I don’t want that suddenly appear, with “Admin” as their author?

For (a), WordPress should be defaulting to your logged in ID as the author of posts. Go to the post screen and see who is listed as authors. If you’ve correctly changed the user ID, as you seem to have, then admin shouldn’t show up there at all.

I have tried deleting admin but it will reappear by itself later on…

I have tried to set it’s permissions so that it cannot post but it for some reason still posts… I don’t get it!

What are the posts? It might be a plugin doing this or a hack, but without knowing exactly what’s being posted…

It posts relevant content but links to other websites… I deleted all the ones it had posted so nothing to show for it now ??

Is there something you would recommend I do next time this happens?

thanks for the help btw Ipstenu !

Delete the admin account. Do not recreate it. Since your ID is an admin, that should suffice.

Then list all your plugins here, maybe someone has an idea.

My bet is that you got hacked. I’d back up your website immediately and start cleaning and/or comparing to backups you have from before.

I think I will just whitelist my locations but I also think that it is some sort of script that is on the site so maybe I can’t prevent it from posting?

It seems to do it every 2-3 weeks it will make one post… now that I have 100+ subscribers this is just absolutely not going to work! I wonder if I can somehow wipe everything and start it over but keep all my posts?
