• I have the News theme on the Genisis framework. My first time posting, so if I do something wrong…sorry! ??

In the last week, my admin functions and panel have not been working properly. For example, spell check works only sporadically. If I enter a post and click publish, sometimes it just spins and spins and times out. Same if I edit a post and click update — it will often spin and sometimes the entire center of my screen goes blank and all I can see is the admin navigation panel on the left. Other times, it freezes up and I have to navigate away. Adding a picture is the same problem… I click “upload” and it could take 45 seconds or a minute to add the picture. All of this is just within the last week and happens on Chrome and IE9.

My host provider did some technical trouble shooting and had me remove plug-ins. That did not work. I deleted posts, images, etc. That did not work. It is not my internet connection and visitors to the site are not affected…they see it fine and navigate it fine, so it seems to only be affecting the dashboard and admin/edit functions.

The host company tech support now says it is because I need to upgrade to the latest version of Genisis and WordPress…but there are risks that my site might be harmed according to them, so I am hesitant. Besides, I’ve been told that upgrading WP or my theme will not fix these issues.

I would be so grateful if anyone had ideas or if they’ve experienced this before, to let me know what they found. Thanks!

  • I’m sorry but as you are using a commercial theme, you need to seek support from the theme’s vendors regarding Genesis/News. As for upgrading WordPress, we always recommend that you run the latest version of WordPress. If you backup your database before upgrading, you should be fine.

Thanks! I have tried. It seems getting true support can be a bit elusive. I also have non commercial WordPress sites, but they are not having the same issue. So this forum is only for people who have a free Wordrpress instalation? Thanks!

Wait, I’m sorry esmi, but www.remarpro.com is for paid WordPress installs. I just checked. WordPress.com if free wordpress instalations. I have a paid WordPress account. So isn’t this forum appropriate for my question? Thanks!

I suggest making a backup of your site and database and doing the update.

You’re using StudioPress. They have an excellent support forum for their themes. If your upgrade doesn’t work then try there.

These support forums, www.remarpro.com, are for people who use the free open source self hosted version of the WordPress software like you.

WordPress.com is a hosted service that also uses the WordPress software but does not allow you to use custom themes or plugins. These support forums are not for WordPress.com.

Your theme, Genesis, is a paid commercial theme sold by Studio Press. Studio Press also provides support for this theme. You will need to get your support for your commercial theme from Studio Press the company who sold you the theme.

We have no idea how to support the theme because we do not have access to the code because it is behind a paywall. We also do not want to do your vendors job for free when you paid them, nor do we want to interfere with your vendors market for selling support for there products.
