• I was able to install the plugin CodeEmbed successfully, however, when I go to CodeEmbed settings on the plugin page, I receive this message, “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.” Note that CodeEmbed settings are not available on the WordPress “Settings” menu. Is this a fatal error or can I fix it?

    Hi Lyn,

I can’t recreate this behaviour at all. Can you answer some questions, as this may help me narrow this down…

    1. Are you an admin on the site?
    2. Which version of the plugin are you using?
    3. Where are you trying to access the settings screen? Settings -> Code Embed?
    4. Can you provide me with the URL that is in your browser when you try to go into the settings and the error appears?

Thanks for your quick response; sorry mine was so slow. In answer to your questions:

    1. Are you an admin on the site? Yes I am
    2. Which version of the plugin are you using? v 2.3.8
    3. Where are you trying to access the settings screen? Settings -> Code Embed? Installed plugins/Code Embed/settings
    4. Can you provide me with the URL that is in your browser when you try to go into the settings and the error appears?

Very odd. That all looks like fine, so I have no idea why it’s not working. A clean install of the plugin onto my own test site and I experience no such issues.

If you go to Tools -> Code Search, does that work? That has different permissions than the settings page.

I have Tools->Code Search but I’ve never used this command and don’t know what I should search for.

BTW I deleted the plugin and reinstalled it by uploading the zip file from my hard drive. I experienced the same message “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.”

Well, it sounds like you can access that screen, which is all I wanted to know.

So, the difference is that the settings page requires you to have manage_options permissions rather than edit_posts. But I can’t see any reason why this may be happening, certainly not a plugin code issue.
