admin and site – all white

Try:
– switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

The plugin will have caused this to happen probably. Nothing to worry about, it has happened to me before.

You will need to manually disable the plugins and this will fix the problem. You will then need to go through an re-enable all of the plugins your site uses.

This will only force WordPress to switch to Twenty Eleven since it can’t find your old theme anymore. This is just to make sure the problem is in your theme and not somewhere else and allow you to log in to your site.

To re-activate your old theme (after fixing the problem with it, if it turns out to be the issue) just rename the folder back to what it was and activate it in the normal way. You shouldn’t lose any customization.

Thanks so much for the clarification. Unfortunately for me, my WP admin is so screwed up I could not install any other theme, including Twenty Eleven. I tried 6 times and wordpress just gets hung up and then the install page goes blank.

I don’t know what to do now, other than to re-install WP

I have the same problem.

I deactivated all plugins and i could then login to the website, but when i try to activate the plugings again the page turns white again…

and its some strange colour on the background page in my plugins list:

@lajuice: Twenty Eleven doesn’t need to be installed as it comes with WordPress.

Who is “WP admin”? Your hosting provider? Any web “admin” that prevents Twenty Eleven is NOT a WordPress admin or WordPress hosting provider.

@rammoss: Plugins must be activated one by one when you have trouble. Then offending lugins should not be activated again. Contact the plugin author and ask for a fix.

@Knut- its not installed if you delete it from your server via FTP, which is what I did a long time ago. I’m sorry if I am taking your comments the wrong way- but not only have you not added anything useful to this discussion but ts clear to me that you misread my string of comments only to tell me “twenty eleven is NOT a WordPress Admin…” I never said it was, and unfortunately, such unnecessary”clarification” comes off incredibly condescending in tone.

If you deleted a part of WordPress at the server, I suggest you upload the complete set of files once again. Then follow the instructions.

You will not lose anything, absolutely nothing, by renaming a theme folder or the plugins folder. Files are still there. All settings are stored in the database, and the database files are not in there.

hey knut- your attitude is really off putting- do me a favor and don’t bother to “offer support” or suggestions to me again. Its not helpful and its offensive.

And to clarify, I didn’t hijack anything- I have the same problem as the poster, and frankly as anyone in any decent support forum knows, adding pieces to the puzzle will often help others. Don’t know why I’d expect yo to understand that concept.

Wow, way to step in at the last minute without researching the entire situation. Who knew the only way to get the attention of the “moderators” here was to tell other rude people off?FYI your point is irrelevant, being right and being rude are not mutually exclusive.

And for the record I have spent the last month posting original threads/new topics on the matter, all of which have been completely ignored by you, other moderators and WordPress completely. So I went looking for other users who share my problem, and I found them and I added to their threads hoping someone could help us all.

Instead I get berated and once more ignored. but hey- if WordPress isn’t interested in knowing that a common problem with their system is affecting multiple users- then message received. Between being continually hacked through the WordPress login feature and this faulty version of WordPress, the system is just not worth it.

Some important information:

This is not a payed service. You don’t pay, the helpers here don’t get payed. We are here as volounteers, and you are asking, presumably politely.

There are very few moderators. Have you come across one?

If you get ignored, as you say, have you ever thougt about why that might be? Might try better, more detailed, description of your problem, and do some testing yourself, and report what you find. In that way your problem might seem more interesting and get more attention from those who can help. There are many.

It’s very common that those with a symptom or observation of a problem think that when they see others apparently having they same symptom, they think it is the same basic problem. Rarely true, when the problem has been sorted out. Therefore you should stick to your own thread or threads, as long as you don’t contribute.

But there are people in here looking for common trouble with WordPress core that might be fixed some time later. There are many millions of WordPress installs. A few with the same kind of trouble don’t make it a fixable problem with WordPress itself. Most serious bugs are catched in a beta cycle (testing period).

Most problems are caused by:
1. A plugin doing something in a way it should not do it
2. The theme used, same as above
3. The server configuration
4. Browsers, old or misconfigured

Therefore it’s very important to rule out all those surces of error before going in deeper. Most problems are solved without going deep.

My advice to you is to act on the suggestions you get, and try not to get emotional over some statements made, based on observations and experience. No one has been offensive to you!

This is not a battelefield or a crying corner. This is for support, and you get it.

Yea you’re right: I come here looking for help and you barge right in, instead of offering help, write a manifesto about how inconvenient it is for you that i posted to someone else’s post, and then do nothing but condescend and berate a person you don’t even know. Yea- I’m the rude one.

Am I worried about not getting help from anyone else, because I wasted my timestanding up to you when you treated me badly and without provokation, @knut? Absolutely not. With “help” like yours, I’m better off with the WP problem and more likely to be treated fairly by the hackers.
