Just fielded a complaint from a customer from Canada that could not select provinces because the Canada country selection was disabled. I had the customer disable his AdGuard browser plugin and he was able to complete his order. Has anyone else run into this problem with AdGuard and how do we resolve it? The country selector is not even an advertisement, so I’m at a loss.

Tell your customer not to use ad blockers. Problem solved.

With 30%+ of users having some sort of ad blocker installed, I don’t see that as a solution. The benefit of an ecommerce store is people can order at will any time of day or night. Having to diagnose ad blocking problems for such a large percentage of shoppers is not feasible. It would make more sense for the developer of ecommerce solutions to confirm adblocking does not interfere with core features such as the country selector. We don’t run into these issues with Volusion and others except for WooCommerce. A short term fix, if one wants to call it that, is a notice on the checkout page telling people to disable their adblockers if they run into problems checking out. But as we all know, problems checking out will lead to lost sales.

How would any developer know what’s coming from some app down the road? 100% of sites worried about ad blockers install disabling ad blocker notification popups.

Before retirement my company installed numerous notifications on CBS, Fortune and Cars.com because they also experience the same issues.

Ad Blocking is a “user” pref, not a platform such as WC.

By testing against the variety of web browsers, ad blockers and anything that may interfere with the sale.

Is there a plugin specific to WC that provides this notice on the checkout page?

It doesn’t work that way at all.

You can find tons of popups out there or you can add a custom snippet to the cart and checkout pages to state that if you are using an ad blocker to disable it as you will not enjoy our site with it enabled. etc etc.

Even Facebook has one because they don’t code their site based on an ad blocker.

Actually, here’s a good source for plugins. However, and this is big, do not download from any 3rd party website any plugin. Research that these plugins are inside the WordPress Repository and download from there.

3rd party sites are known for evil hackers and downloading from sites like that will open you up to a whole new can of worms
