I have AddThis set up on two blogs and I’m using the “Select your own” option for the buttons at the bottom of posts.

I also have the AddThis widget near the top of the sidebar. This seems to work well on my desktop. However, on a laptop with a smaller screen, an iPad mini, or an iPhone 5s, the selected buttons and order don’t correspond to what I have in the main settings.

There does not seem to be anyway to selectively customize the bottons in the side bar.

    Please advise.

    Hi there,

I am Elsa from AddThis support team. Thank you for contacting us.

I’d love to help you, but first I’ll need to see a publicly accessible URL address of the page on your site where you’re seeing the problem. Please note this is not the address of your home page but the address of a page which has the AddThis buttons installed on it.

Feel free to contact us for more questions.

    Thanks,
    Elsa.

Any of the pages at https://www.JezziSpa.com – you will see the correct buttons below the content. But the ones at the side do not match the selected group in the sidebar widget on smaller screen sizes.

    Hi DJ.

It sounds like you selected which buttons you wanted to show up below content instead of AddThis auto-personalization. This isn’t a global setting. It only applied to those specific buttons. Your selection for sharing buttons below content will not apply to sharing buttons added using the AddThis Sharing Buttons widget.

The AddThis widget buttons only support auto-personalization. I can see how this is confusing and inconsistent, since both above and below content sharing buttons let you configure this. We can look into adding this in a future release.

    Here’s how auto-personalization works:

Auto-personalization picks out the buttons your visitor is most likely to use based on their location, past usage and other data. If you share differently from the web browsers on your laptop, iPad mini or iPhone (specifically, if you’ve clicked on different sharing buttons from those in the past), auto-personalization will show you different buttons on each of those devices. For example, I never share to Pinterest so auto-personalization doesn’t show me the Pinterest icon and instead gives me an email sharing button (which I occasionally use). We’ve found that auto-personalization gets our users the most shares overall.

Please feel free to reach out to use here or at [email protected] if you run into any other issues.

Okay. I see. Thank you for the explanation.

Given that the sidebar buttons could be different for different viewers, it might even be an advantage.

    Hi DJ.

Yes, the Sharing Sidebar also only uses auto-personalization.

We like auto-personalization. ?? Our users get more total shares when they use auto-personalization, and we recommend it for anyone who isn’t running targeted campaigns to increase their presence on just certain social sites.
