    Hello,

I recently decided that I wanted to change the domain name of my wordpress blog which is currently hosted on Host Gator – I bought the domain name through wordpress.

Basically for some background info – a few years ago I had the blog: thefashionjournalist.wordpress.com and ended up upgrading, hosting it on hostgator and then getting the domain name thefashionjourno.com.

When I upgraded it, it did the normal thing and created all the files on host gator. In my WordPress.com blogs pannel I have since had thefashionjourno.com which is up to date and also thefashionjournalist.wordpress.com which I have not touched since upgrading.

    So in present day:

In order to create the addon domain I followed the below instructions:
    https://support.hostgator.com/articles/specialized-help/technical/wordpress/changing-the-domain-of-your-wordpress-site

I followed them up to Step 6 before everything stuffed up.

I bought the new domain name melswanderlust.com through wordpress and changed it’s name severs so that they are the same as what is listed for my thefashionjourno.com domain.

However since melswanderlust.com got activated it has been pointing to my thefashionjournalist.wordpress.com blog. Which is old and useless.

I am wondering if I have done something wrong or if I just need to wait longer for the name serves to kick in.

If I do as the hostgator instructions tell me to at Step 6 and go to melswanderlust.com/wp-admin it brings me to the thefashionjournalist.wordpress.com log in page which is definitely not what I want.

Any help with this would be appreciated. I am not much of an expert at this so layman’s terms would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Looks like it was just DNS latency. It can take up to 72 hours for all that to catch up, and melswanderlust.com is working now. Well. it has an error, but it’s pointing to your right locations ??

Thanks for your reply! I sent the same message through to Host Gator support and they picked up the errors before I even got to see them and fixed them!

    Thanks for your help! ??
