Addl categories don’t display in sidebar

  • In the wp-admin I have added a new category through categories.php. When I view my site it does not appear, only the default displays. I read to go under options and create an .htaccess file but it keeps getting deleted. I have read about it but don’t understand the function. Is this the reason my category won’t show up? I thought it might be in my template code but when I change templates it still doesn’t show up. Is there anyone who would be willing to give me insight? I have modified a template but do not know if this is a database function or a html function elsewhere. Thanks in advance for help! The site is https://www.lexiandsean.com.

  • Is there a post assigned to the new category? If not, it won’t show up in the list.

    In my case the categories didn’t show up on my sidebar until I actually put something in them. As soon as I put in one post – poof there it was!

    Also I didn’t want a blogroll so I was planning to delete it, but I discovered that just deleting all the links hid it in the sidebar, so it’s really pretty handy when you think about it.

    I had a comment in the admin portion but that didn’t show up. I added a comment in posts and it showed up! Thanks so much for the help!
