    thanks i’ll see what i can find

    @ollybach: Sorry but that’s not cool and really goes too far. Accessing a user’s system like this makes you responsible for that user’s system. If you make changes and something breaks later on as a result, then it is your fault.

    Get information, ask for log data, have the user contact you & seek copies of the PHP files. Look but don’t touch. If your code is the problem, then produce a fix and post it here. If the theme or another plugin is at fault, then inform the user, suggest a fix, offer to contact the other developer and/or update your FAQ.

    But do not try to make changes to the user’s files in this way. That’s really going too far outside of your area of responsibility.

    Hey esmi,

    now I’m confused.

    as far as i can see, the plugin works just fine (otherwise i would have my inbox full of this particular issue). I’m just trying to help someone out here.

    What you are suggestion – if i understand you correctly – is that I tell him the plugin works just fine , it’s your problem ?
    not really in the spirit of support i would have thought.

    incidentally, i changed one file in my plugin only and changed it back again. no other changes were made and it’s back to how it was

    I also did not ask for ftp access , but was given it voluntarily

    >If you make changes and something breaks later on as a result, then it is your fault.

    i totally agree here, hence I did not make any other than the one i talked about above

    problem is of course, how can I find out what the problem is in the first place in this particular installation if I cannot check things in the first place ?

    happy to hear any suggestions

    Hello,

    I think his way of giving users support is quite great.

    And if he breaks something its actually my fault, because I gave him access.

    It’s an demo site right now only, without any use right now, otherwise I wouldn’t have given him access.

    I tell him the plugin works just fine , it’s your problem ?

    No. I did not suggest that anywhere. What I did say was:

    Get information, ask for log data, have the user contact you & seek copies of the PHP files. Look but don’t touch. If your code is the problem, then produce a fix and post it here. I’m sorry but this is forum policy. If you want to make such arrangements privately elsewhere, that is your prerogative (although, personally, I would never suggest giving anyone access to your site unless they are a trusted – and paid – contractor) but not on these forums – thank you.

    its actually my fault, because I gave him access

    And what if damage extends to other parts of the (presumably shared) server? What will your hosts reaction be if they discover that you handed out server access so easily? Have you checked their Terms & Conditions?

    @esmi

    ok, i’ll take this on board and will do my best to adhere to what you are saying in the future

    @bspages
    thanks for the support on that one. I guess we will have to have a direct chat by email to see where we go from here.

    so that’s us 2 firmly told off then ??

    @esmi
    thanks…we shall behave in the future, promise

    Thank you very much for your understanding. ??

    I’m sorry,

    haven’t read this before. Yes, we should do it by email ??

    ok, resolved ……

    essentially – in case someone else reads this – the install was wrong or at least not as described as in the install instruction.

    Either way though, the next update of the plugin will also allow for this peculiarity without throwing this issue

    hello,

    I apollogize for the problems. installed the plugin via adminpanel.

    Thank you really much

    Hi,

    wasn’t an issue of how you installed the plugin into wordpress , but how – after that – it was configured

    anyway , all fine now as far as i know
