• Hello,

Just getting my feet wet. I have a couple CSS codes in the additional CSS section in Customize and it shows up in the same screen preview, but doesn’t show up when I access the site in a separate window. The items are for centering the navigation menu, and hiding the “powered by wordpress” text at the bottom. I also have an image loaded to the logo, that doesn’t show up either. Everything else seems to look correct.

Does this mean something is overriding those items? I’m using the Twenty Nineteen theme. I’ve tried deactivating my plugins to troubleshoot and none of them seem to affect it. I’ve cleared browser cache, and I’ve deleted and reinstalled the theme, no change. Any thoughts? Thanks

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Can you deactivate all your plugins again and let us know when you’ve done so – alternatively can you deactivate them and check the source code to make sure they’re definitely not being loaded in?

    What about clearing your cache?

@anevins Just deactivated all my plugins. I’m not sure how to check source code for active plugins. Thanks for the help.

@stilman-davis I’ve tried clearing my cache in Chrome, nothing changed.

@stilman-davis what do you think about server caching? As all plugins have now been deactivated again, can you check the DOM to see if they’re still there by looking in the HEAD?

Hi @sami8402 I’ve checked your site now and your plugins have been successfully deactivated, thanks for checking that. It’s not a server caching issue as I thought. You can reactivate your plugins.

    Sorry for the late reply.

Sometimes the cache settings are local to the browsing machine. Sometimes it is a cache on the server or it has also been known to be in between.

Clearing the cache locally sometimes causes the page to be reconstituted from the page’s server, as I understand it. This has helped in my trying to find problems on a page, especially when something just doesn’t seem to work even after a number of changes.

As always, your mileage may vary with clearing the cache.

Have you had any success? Do any of your plugins conflict? The old route of adding one at a time and checking the site as you do so may be the only way to find if there is.

@stilman-davis I’ve cleared browser cache, I’ve downloaded multiple cache plugins to clear WP cache, I’ve troubleshooted plugins, deactivating all plugins shows same results.

I’ve been googling how to clear server side cache and that seems to be a mixed bag. Haven’t found one that looks like my cpanel options.

Thanks for the input. I’m pretty close to just uninstalling wordpress and starting over. Not that I’ve gotten too far, but still annoying, and I don’t even know that would help or not.

@sami8402 I just went to your site. It looks as if you have been successful. The main menu is centered and there is no “powered by….” That seems to be what you wanted to do.

Be careful about using more than one plugin to do the same job. It might be your undoing.

I am sorry my replies are sporadic — work gets in the way. If I may be of any other help please “shout”.

@stilman-davis no worries, thanks for the help.

I actually wiped everything and started over. uninstalled WordPress and deleted all my files. IDK what was the cause but I have the same exact setup, same plugins, same theme, and everything seems to be going smoothly.

Maybe I messed with something on my first install. Thanks again for the help.

All those zeros and ones — so many to keep in order….. — difficult to know where the problem was. It could have been a mis-saved file somehow when you were doing all your messing about.

Glad the reinstall did the trick. Quite often that seems to be the final card to play and it trumps everything.

    Regards,
    Stilman
