• My intention was to add a ‘www’ prefix to domain https://primarydomain.com becoming https://www.primarydomain.com.

When trying to change the domain names in a Multisite Network setup once they’ve been mapped, I got an error on the multisite dashboard link (https://www.primarydomain.com.br/wp-admin/network/ ). The site is up running, but I’m not able to access the multsite link.

I followed the instructions running Search-Replace-DB to replace the URLs and modifying “wp-config.php” inserting ‘www.’ on the DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE variable.

    Error:
    The page isn’t redirecting properly
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • You need to setup “www” as an A or CNAME record in your DNS settings of your domain registrar or web host first. Have you done that?

No, I didn’t know anything about this.
It was not on the instructions.

But, I have the CNAME record in my DNS.
    www CNAME primarydomain.com.br

Browser receives an error HTTP 302 when calling admin multisite dashboard.

OK, the support topic you referenced is a bit old. However, the important thing is: Can you access both the “www” version AND the “non-www” in your web browser. What I mean is, your DNS needs to be set up properly. I will suggest contacting your web host if you are not familiar with DNS.

Another thing, I think most website owners today just point https://www.your-site dot com to your-site dot com via a CNAME record and be done with it. This way you don’t have to do anything in WordPress and besides, most people are not going to enter ‘www’ before the website name. There is no need for ‘www’ in front of websites for some time now, so I think you should keep things the way they were and just create a CNAME record (perhaps with the assistance of your web host) to point to the ‘non-www’ version.

I can access both www and non-www versions. I compared DNS records of two of my sites, one with www and this one that I converted to a www version, and both are similar. So, I don’t think it can be the reason.

I’ve undone things and I’ll try to ask my host provider once again.

    Thanks a lot.
