Adding translations for non-post/category/tag content

Hi,

Our plugin will create translations for standard fields only: title, content, category and tags of post/page. The menu will be translated automatically, if it is a standard menu that consists of the existing pages. Custom menu items will not be translated.

Is there any code that I can use to display content conditionally based on which language is selected? It seems like only being able to change certain pieces of content is a serious limiting factor to overcome for a translation plugin.
