Adding Templates

A quick question.

I’ve tried adding an edited template page with a different name to my child theme folder, but it doesn’t show up in the select template drop down when editing a page.

Is it possible to add ‘new’ template pages to the child theme folder and have them show up as a selectable option in the template drop down?

I hope that all makes sense.
