    Hello,

We have UK customers that didn’t pay VAT until the start of this year. However, when we try to add taxes to their subscriptions, it doesn’t work.

I got in touch with WooCommerce who did some troubleshooting and concluded that the issue came from the payment gateway that didn’t handle this procedure.

I followed the procedure explained here : https://woocommerce.com/document/subscriptions/add-or-modify-a-subscription/#section-5

    Here’s what I did :
    – Open a subscription order
    – Click on “Add Items”
    – CLick on “Add tax”
    – Select the UK VAT and click “Add”
    – Click on “Recalculate”

After that, taxes are not added to the subscription. WooCommerce gave me a list of compatible plugins that handle this feature but I can’t switch to another gateway like that with hundreds of active subscriptions.

Is it possible to add this feature in a future update ?

    Hi @lwsdevelopers,

I am glad you reached out to us because you received some inaccurate information.

I got in touch with WooCommerce who did some troubleshooting and concluded that the issue came from the payment gateway that didn’t handle this procedure.

Payment gateways are not involved in the tax calculation of a subscription or an order. It’s not a procedure that a payment gateway needs to handle since they are not involved.

I was able to add tax to a subscription that had no tax as expected. The reason the tax might not be included after you click the calculation button would be if the tax rate you selected does not match the customer’s billing/shipping address (depending on your tax settings for address). For example, if you have a tax rate setup for UK but the tax rate you selected is not for that country code, the tax won’t be included.

    Kind Regards,

Thank you very much for solving this.
You’re indeed correct, I added the UK tax code instead of adding the GB one.
After modification, taxes were added as expected.

I’ll make sure to leave an outstanding review.
