Adding Social Media Icons and links

Newbie here, so hope this isnt too basic ??

I am using the “Very Simple Start” theme from Dessky and have a single image on the home page with a menu bar. I would like to add some icons with social media links over the single slider image and am struggling how to do this. Unfortunately some links are not commonplace (Twitter/Facebook, etc) so wont be covered by standard “social media” add-ons. So I guess what I need is a way to have a clickable JPG over the home screen.

I did try adding them in the menu (using Menu Image add-on) and this worked but messed up the locations of the existing links. Also the icon was fine when viewed in Firefox, but was ten times as big taking up half the screen when viewed in IE!

Can anyone point me where to start looking for a solution?
