Adding multiple levels of comments

Does anyone have any ideas on how I could add a second level of comments to each post that only logged in authors on my site could view. I have a multi-author site and want the authors to be able to submit constructive criticism to the author of the post via comments on their posts without the public being able to view these comments. Thanks.
