• Hi There,

I am absolutely tearing my hair out with this query. I have been trying to upload 2 pictures to a blog post that is mostly text based. However, when I try and do this via the “Upload New Media” function, the response I get is .jpg” has failed to upload due to an error Unable to create directory uploads/2013/04. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

When I try and insert the picture into the blog post itself (by editing the post, clicking add media on the LHS of the page) the page just remains the same – I cant select an image to upload.

    Please please please help.

    Many Thanks and Kind Regards,
    RH

  • Try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

    Esmi,

    Thank you so so much.

I am still struggling. If you could help, would it be possible to give me (in very very very basic terms) a step by step how to do this?

    Many Thanks and Kind Regards,
    RH

Did you see the page at the link I posted above. Your hosts should also be able to assist you with changing permissions on a folder.

    Hi Esmi,

Thanks for this. Unfortunately this is a bit complicated for me – I am not really understanding what I am supposed to do.

I understand that I need to change the wp-content to a format that works (example 766). However, I am not sure exactly how to do that.

Any guidance or help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

    Kindest Regards,
    RH

Ask your hosts for assistance with this.

    Thanks Esmi,

    Who are my hosts?

    Thanks,
    RH

We have no idea who your hosts are. All we can say is that these are the people you are currently paying a significant amount of money to host your WordPress site for you.
