• Hi all,

I like uploading my own files (images) to my server using FTP as it lets me define a nice clear structure.

However unless my files are added to the media library it won’t let me set it as a featured image.

Does anyone know a way around this? Or how to add said files to the media library, when I try to add a file all it gives me is an upload option :s

I have tried searching but media library and featured image seem to bring up a load of unrelated topics.

    Thanks.

    Shameless bump.

You can just go to left menu and Media > Library > Add New, “select all” the featured images you want to upload at the same time, then WordPress will add them one at a time to the Library.

When you then set the post or page feature image choose from the library or is it gallery?

The Add New link only gives the option of uploading files.

I want to add already uploaded files to the media library.
    Can this even be done?

You are not able to use FTP’d images. It will not see them.

This feature only works for files uploaded through WordPress.

    Ok, thanks.
Looks like I’ll have to resort to using the wordpress uploader.

It just seems silly that the featured images have to be uploaded using the wordpress uploader.
