Adding images for each color option

My product is available in different colors. I was under the impression that I can set an image for each color. For example, they hit the drop down menu and choose the red shirt, then the product image changes to the red shirt. They choose the green shirt and it turns to green. I have spent way too long trying to figure this out and I can’t find any information on how to do this anywhere.
