• Hi

Just set up my new site. When I try and add an image I get this error:

Unable to create directory /home/nortouk1/public_html/news/wp-content/uploads/2008/05. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

How do I resolve this please?

    David

  • Hmmm, I am not an expert at all but I did it the other way around; I first created the pictures directory on the server (using FTP), then uploaded the images there by ftp, then I told WordPress where to find the image.

    It worked without a problem.

To me it seems like your not able to create a directory or to write in it with your current settings,

    Hope this helps, not confuses,

I did the FTP thing too and it worked, though I would like to do it just straight from a browser.

I get the same message “Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2009/01. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”

    Any thoughts?

    Hi,

I think this is a permissions problem. The directory you have created needs to be chmod to 777. This is what its referring to when it says is it ‘writeable’. You have to change the rights via FTP.

Use your FTP program the change the permissions for that specific directory i.e. rw-rw-rw (777). Look for ‘chmod’ …

    Hope this helps.

    hi there
huys I am facing a similar problem – unable to load image.
i went to the cPanel to see the permissions. the 01 folder of 2009 is set at permission 755 like all the folders of 2008.
in fact i was able to load pics on this folder 01/2009 till day before yesterday. then something went wrong. i am not able to figure out.
please help. write instructions in steps so i can understand
    regards
    Prashant
