I followed instructions on this forum for adding a .htaccess file to wp-admin folder in order to make security plugins (like Bulletproof Security) work. But as soon as I put the .htaccess file into wp-admin, it killed my site. Anybody got another idea?

  • thanks for the info. Was about to edit .htaccess until I saw this.

@owen: dianabyron’s advice is absolutely wrong. That permalink structure only exists in the root .htaccess. You never put that in another .htaccess file, esp. one in /wp-admin/

Songdogtech, it was guvnrDOTcom’s advice, not mine.
I did not want to start re-writing files because I don’t know enough about it, so in the end I just uninstalled and reinstalled plugins until BPS put in the proper htaccess files automatically.

@dianabyron: OK, but repeating the same bad advice – and not clearly – just confuses things more. I deleted it in your orginal post.
