Adding extra HTML content to blog page

Hey all,

I am looking to add an introductory statement, picture and some added lines of copy for a client on the home page of their site. The home page is not slated to be static, it will be the blog page. The new content will go directly below the header, but should not be considered part of the header.

I just need to throw in a DIV and some headlines and paragraphs. Really simple. Where do I put it? I can’t put it in the header otherwise it will generate for each page. This is simply something for the home page.

I am not used to editing the loop/index/functions PHP files… at all. Any advice on where to place the content and how to would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!
