Adding an (external) link by selecting text or with a button has become more and more cumbersome in the Gutenberg era:

    • select text
    • add link
    • press enter
    • select link again
    • click pencil
    • click advanced
    • check open in new tab

Why do I need 7 clicks to set up a link? It used to be a lot simpler and quicker.
Would be great if all of this information would be available in one popup when you add a link, and not require all those extra clicks anymore.

  • Well, I just checked the latest Gutenberg ( you can install the Gutenberg Plugin to get ‘bleeding edge’ features ) and the check box is back, no need to open advanced, so that will be coming in a core release some time.
