The date is appended to the event name on my site. It looks like this:
    https://msite.com/events/event-name-2018-05-19/

Are your event names super long that it can’t append the date?

    Try shortening your event name.

Are you on the latest EM version?

why don’t you just put it into the title ?
That should “translate” to the URL.

@dcfreeland Tried creating a short title and no date was added. We are running the latest version 5.9.2

@robswaimea Yes that would work but there a lot of people creating the events and they don’t remember to do that. Would like to handle this automatically

What’s the best way to automatically make the year part of the event’s url?

sorry but at the moment this is not yet possible.

My 2 cents – why create a new event each year? Why not just change the details for last year’s event? You’ll retain the SEO from the original link.
Plus you’ll reduce the overhead of your site.

I say this from experience. After 3 years I was up to 14,000 events and it was killing my database size and response times. I did a lot of cleanup and am around 6,000 events now.

And I only have the date appended for recurring events. Not for individual events.
