I’m building a wordpress page based on twenty twenty four theme, where I’ve built the of Group blocks, with the content (headers, paragraphs, images) inside the Group with the setting “Inner blocks use content width” which is consistent throughout the page.

I want to break the monotony of the page design a bit by having certain sections with a different backgrounds, doing this by going to the group settings and changing the background. But it appears that it changes the content width inside the group although the setting is still the same. This is most evident on smaller screen widths. It seems changing the background adds some automatic padding (which is good for the top/bottom for the colored section, but having all of the page content with a consistent width would be more polished)

Is there something I’m doing wrong here? Quite new to wordpress development so still learning here.

Here is an image before, with all content in line

Here is with the background color changed

Hi @pyypyy – I’ve tried recreating this in a fresh install of WordPress with Twenty Twenty-Four – and haven’t been able to as yet.

Are you able to share a link to the page where you’re seeing this happening? Alternatively – if you copy the blocks from the editor – you can paste them in here as HTML (in a code block) and I could take a look.

Hello, thank you for offering to take a look at it! I really appreciate it.

The page is not live yet but I disabled the coming soon mode temporarily. The post in question is here Protected: Designing a youth focused help website for Digifinland – Kimmo Vuorinen and the password is PF2024. The block in question is the one with the two columns with headers Market Analysis and Desk research.

I see that I don’t get this consistently so the problem might be some other setting than the background, maybe related to the two column layout.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I’ve done that but that (sometimes) still leads to the inconsistent page width.

Hi @pyypyy, I checked on your site and it seems to be aligned with the rest of your content now, right?

If not, do you mean you want something like that (without the additional padding at all) for the block?

Thanks. I had the problem mainly on when there were two columns inside the block with the color background. I changed the layout to a single column one for now because it’s also more readable that way. Anyway, thanks for looking into it.
