adding attribute and getting it to apply to variations

    I have added an attribute with bulk edit. I need it to apply to variation and create variations for each of the attribute values. I can’t seem to find a way to get that apply to variations box checked in the attributes and creating the variations using the bulk edit. How do I do this?
