Adding Ads (other than AdSense)

    I’m working on switching our newspaper’s site over to WordPress and I’m having trouble figuring out how to get the ads placed. The site is https://www.dillonheraldonline.com, although it’s very rough right now. We’re basically trying to find a cheaper alternative to our current provider, and wordpress seemed like a good fit.

    One of the first things we wanted to check on was the ad support, so even though I’ve read that I should worry about that last, I want to make sure WordPress will offer the kind of ad support we need.

    The template we wanted to use only comes with one ad spot, so I was looking at the plug-ins for help. But pretty much every plug-in I’ve downloaded asked me for an ad code, and told me to get it from Google. On our current site, we run our own local ads, but I can’t seem to find information on how to code for anything but placement of ads.

    On top of that, searching the forums has left me confused about whether or not ads other than AdSense are even allowed?

    Any help will be appreciated!

  • Ads have nothing to do with WP…Ads can be placed anywhere however you wish. It is up to the designer/developer to designate certain locations on your site to allow placement ads.

    Just to update this, I found a plug-in called Ad-Minister that worked GREAT and allowed me to put the ads exactly where I wanted.

    Thanks! I’m still ironing out a few things here and there, but I’m pretty pleased with it.

    Ad-minister worked like charm once I figured out where to put the codes. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re thinking of running your own ads or local ads in your site.
