• I’ve poked around the forum and posted the same question in the flickr/squible support group. Question is, how would I go about adding a sidebar to the page template (page.php) using the squible theme? Out of the box, squible doesn’t use or even include sidebar.php. I’m running Squible 2.5a on WP 1.5.2.

    Thanks y’all!

  • As you’ve noted, there’s a support forum for Squible. That theme is not designed to have a sidebar, and much recoding would be needed. I’d seriously suggest researching another theme with a sidebar, and incorporate some of the features of Squible you like.

Thanks for the feedback miklb, but I just gotta ask… anybody beg to differ? Would it really be as difficult as you suggest it might be to add a sidebar to the page template? It sounds even more like a chore to switch themes and reverse engineer squible features.

    Second opinion, anyone?

I have to second miklb: it’s more difficult than you think – otherwise you wouldn’t be here ??
The Default theme doesn’t use the sidebar in the single post view either; based on the zillion of questions asked about it around here it’s not an easy task… unless you are good with CSS/HTML.

Your only option would be to convert the theme to a wider page, and add a new div outside every thing else. But again, I think you’ll find it more difficult than it sounds, not to mention, IMO, be counter to the design of the theme.

Alright, you almost have me convinced I should go another direction with this whole squible/sidebar issue. However, before I can let this issue R.I.P., I would like to clarify my main objective.

I’m interested in adding a sidebar to ‘static page’ template and NOT the ‘single post view’. Obviously, adding a sidebar to the ‘single post view’ presents a problem, but adding a sidebar to the ‘static page’ template? Really?

This is a single column design element in the squible theme that’s just begging for a sidebar. Thoughts?

    It doesn’t make any difference.
