Adding a Photo to Blog Post Without Embedding In Text

If possible and not unadvisable, I would like to add a field to blog posts for a photo to go with each blog post. The most recent blog post of a certain category needs to have a photo placed next to its excerpt on our home page. Link to site. Blog item with photo are in the lower left corner.

Types and Pods are installed, but I am not sure if either of them are the smart way to do this.

I was thinking of setting up HTML inside the post text, where I am typing now, but that doesn’t seem too user friendly.
