Adding a page loop and post loop (custom category) to home page

Hello,

I am a bit rusty and am having trouble remembering how to add a specific blog category to the home page along with static content. I created a page template called front-page.php but I need help with the loops. Can anyone help me? I have looked at the codex already and searched as well.
