I’ve been using the plugin for several months without any issue.

Now, when I try to add a new slideshow by clicking on the ‘Add a new slideshow’ button the page reloads, but then simply shows the last slideshow created with all its images, the hamburger icon in the plugin’s search bar briefly changes and spins but nothing else happens.

    No error messages.
    No ‘New Slideshow’ page.
Just the last/most recent slideshow which was created.

I’ve disabled all plugins (except MetaSlider), changed the theme but this has no effect. I’ve tried different browsers, clearing my cache. I’ve tried logging in as a different user. Nothing seems to help.

I should add that other, normal WordPress operations are working as expected.

Is there a limit on the number of slideshows that you can have? (I have c800).

Is there anything else that I can do to help rectify this issue?

WordPress and plugins are all up to date and running PHP version: 7.3.20. Haven’t reached bandwidth limit, or server space limit.

    [EDIT]
I’ve just tried deleting the most recent Slideshow to test if there’s a limit on the number of slideshows and it now defaults to the next newest slideshow.

So the delete operation worked, still can’t add new slideshows ??

  • Does the error message from cloner.php show up consistently when you try to add a new slideshow or could those just be unrelated?

You can disable a mu-plugin by just removing it from the mu-plugins directory, but of course you should save it elsewhere first.

Ok. Cleared the log file. Tried to add a new slideshow. Log file remains unchanged. So perhaps those errors are unrelated to MetaSlider and relate to the backup taken in the early hours of the morning.

A different error log displays the following errors:

    [2020-07-27 05:23:00] [authz_core:error] [client 45.121.106.200:0] AH01630: client denied by server configuration: /mnt/web/ns/std/5/9/8/pro-rally.co.uk/web/user, referer https://pro-rally.co.uk/user/register?element_parents=account/mail/%23value&ajax_form=1&_wrapper_format=drupal_ajax

I don’t think these have anything to do with the MetaSlider issue.

Deactivated the two MU plugins and deleted the two .php files in the mu-plugins folder. Tried to add a new slideshow – same result ??

Not really sure what else to try. We have a test site with 2000 slideshows and I’m pretty sure WP can handle millions (maybe?) of posts. We insert posts using the built in WP functions so nothing funny going on there. And a failure during a duplication would show an error message.

Two things that may lead somewhere.

    1. If you can check the Database to see whether the slideshow is being added there. Slides (ml-slide post type name) and slideshows (ml-slider) both are added as post types, so you could check both for new entires. If it’s showing in the database but not on the site, that might give a better hint where to look next. If the slideshows are added, then make note of the post ID number

    2. Contact GoDaddy. Their support might be able to help pinpoint the error a little bit better. Although getting a decent support rep is sometimes hit or miss in my experience.

I can log in to the DB but am totally out of my depth at this point. Are you able to point me in the right direction as to where to look for the slideshow?

I have this extensive list in the DB but nothing is obvious to me

A slideshow is essentially a post, so you would look at the more recent records being added to the wp_posts table that you have selected in that screenshot. Each entry is given a unique ID, in order so it should be easy to sort by most recently added.

    Ok. Maybe we’re getting there.

It looks like they’re being added to the DB. I clicked add new slideshow at 14:36 and got the same result – page reloads to show latest slideshow.

The DB tells another tale – lots of ‘New Slideshow’ entries with the latest timed at 14:36.

Try manually adding the page to the URL:

    admin.php?page=metaslider&id=25918

    And update the ID.

Also, probably should remove that screenshot in your previous post as there some somewhat sensitive information there.

If the slideshows aren’t showing on the dropdown menu, how about on the sort of “pull down” menu? Do they show there?

    https://prnt.sc/tpy2ax

We keep a cache there too, which you may need to empty out. Check for the clear cache on that pull down area (after expanding).

    Ok, screenshot deleted.

When I add ‘admin.php?page=metaslider&id=53782’ to the URL I am taken to the MetaSlider page for the 1988 Cumbria Rally slideshow, which I added on the 23rd July.

When I add ‘admin.php?page=metaslider&id=54013’ to the URL I get the latest/,most recent slideshow (1989 Cartel International Rally). I should have been taken to the slideshow created at 14:36.

When I expand the dropdown I can’t see any of the slideshows created recently (New Slideshows), nor can I see anything to Clear the Cache.

Searching for New Slideshow yields no results either.

Should I delete the recent entries titled ‘New Slideshow’ from the DB? ALL of my slideshows have logical, dated, descriptive names.

This is what I see in MetaSlider:

    Screenshot

I wouldn’t delete the entries manually from the database. That could break something.

Can you try renaming a title though? Then doing a search for it from the settings page (try both areas as they work differently)?

Also, try clicking on “load all” and see if they show up at the bottom

Renamed a New Slideshow as Test Slideshow XYZ

Tried searching in the main search bar, directly to the right of the MetaSlider logo: Search for ‘Test Slideshow XYZ’ = No slideshows found.

Tried searching the secondary search bar at the top of the dropdown section: Sort by title ‘Test Slideshow XYZ’ = 1989 Cartel International Rally (the latest/most recent slideshow).

Tried load all but can only ever get as far as ‘Viewing 400 out of 818 slideshows’, Indexing slideshows… 419 remaining

Can you try this and check the browser console / PHP logs for an error when it seems to break?

    Console Screenshot

The PHP error is coming from here so maybe a click to your screenshot from before.

The console error is something I’ll make a note of but maybe unrelated. Can you try the above suggestions in Chrome?
