Adding a meta box on the fly?

  • Is there a way to add a meta box to the page edit screen on the fly?

    What I am trying to do is create a few custom content boxes underneath the main content box on the page edit screen. I don’t know how many of these boxes are going to be needed, and I would rather not display a load of them for only one to be filled out on one page and five on another.

    So I would like to add them on the fly. As and when needed, however many there may be needed.

    Is this possible to do? And if so, how?

  • There are plenty of custom meta field plugins out there. Advanced Custom Fields is a good choice

    Thank you, the plugin looks very nice, but it doesn’t allow to have custom meta boxes added on the fly inside a page or custom post type – which is ultimately what I am looking for.

    I am not looking for a plugin to add custom meta boxes, it’s not that hard to do yourself.
