Adding a chat room to my wordpress page

  • Hi there,

    I run https://www.rapnews.co.uk but have no experience of WordPress. I hired a designer to deal with it all. Now he has finished his work, I have since decided I wanted to add a chat room to the site. As you can see, I’ve actually added a ‘chat room’ page and a link on the main side menu.

    I was wondering if anyone could suggest what kind of chat room I should add, and how I should do this?

    If there isn’t a particular wordpress suitable one, could you advice me as to what is the best, most advert free chat room I could use, and link to within that page’s space.

  • It depends how much functionality you need, the best I’m aware of as a WordPress plugin would beAJAX Shoutbox.

    ? I don’t think the shoutbox is a full-featured chat room, is it? I thought it was a sidebar yammer-yammer thingie….

    Depends on your definition of a chat room I guess, you post a message it appears on the screen and then someone can reply to it by posting another message on the screen so yeah that is a kind of chat room. ??

    thanks for the reply but i can’t have it on the side bar. i require it in the actual main section of the chat page at https://www.rapnews.co.uk

    it’s the kind of thing im after though. no adverts, sweet and simple etc. i want to run live webchats with celebrities so will require there to be an admin account which distinguish’s itself from other general users in the chat room.

    You could try the chat from craftysyntax.com and then integrate your design into their template.

    I’d recommend the very inexpensive FlashChat php program.

    Very customizable, many admin and mod features…and flash source code included, you could easily match up some styling looks to match your template.

    thanks for your help. the problem is, my server only allows 2 databases. one is used for the cms and one is used for the message forum. so i guess my only hope is a suitable java chat room? any ideas? thanks.
