• I have a template (Alex King’s dots) I want to use. I have a couple of questions.

    1. Is there any downside in having a modification of a 1.2 theme rather than one specifically created for 1.5, and if so, should I not use a 1.2 modification?

    2. Someone posted this link https://wordlog.com/archives/2005/03/05/first-ten-percent-make-themes-out-of-old-styles/

as being really useful in upcrading a 1.2 theme to 1.5. I’m sure it’s great…but to me it’s greek. Could someone give me more specifics on how to make this change?

    Thanks in advance.

  • 1. Nope, and you can use one if you want to.

while dots is a nice theme, and there’s nothing wrong with porting it over to 1.5, i’d suggest using the 3 column theme trident and then fixing it up to make it look like dots. You’d then be able to get a footer out of it, and your right column would become dynamic instead of you specifiying the pixel location of each section. Also, you’d learn a lot about php/css in the process. Just my suggestion, but you can definitely use the dots 1.2 theme in 1.5 with the necessary changes.

Thanks, I think I’ll take your advice and use Asthetic, it’s a variation on Trident. I don’t know programming but I’d like to have a side panel expandable text box that I can use to change the copy inside on a regular basic. Something like that wouldn’t be hard to create or modify, would it?

    Thanks for your help.

Where is Asthetic (sic) at ?

Once I download this template where do I go for information on how to modify it? Is it something a novice and do? If I want a panel of copy that can be changed easily and often by me, is that possible? Thanks for all your help.
