Adding 3 column post on index page

Is conceivable to add to my index page a 3 column latest post (title & images) below the slider that would display like this?

post1 (title and image) post2 (title and image) post3(title and image)
post4(title and image) post5(title and image) post6(title and image)
post7(title and image) post8(title and image) post9(title and image)

If it is indeed possible and if so through a loop so I do not need to manually update it each time – would it be very difficult to implement to my existing template?
