add_to_cart parameters not being passed correctly

    I can’t see which products are being added to the cart in GA4. The add_to_cart events are being tracked, but item_name is Not Set.

    This is what the add_to_cart event looks like in DebugView:

    This is the only GA tracking integration in use.

    Any idea how I resolve this?

    Would you be able to confirm whether the following options are enabled in the settings (WooCommerce > Settings > Integration > Google Analytics):

    – Enable Universal Analytics
    – Add to Cart Events
    – Enable Enhanced eCommerce

    If any of those options is not enabled then it won’t include the JavaScript code to track the main add to cart button for the single product page.

    Here’s how you can do some further troubleshooting (direct link to forum thread here).

    Furthermore, if you are able to reproduce this under the following conditions:

    1. An unmodified, default WordPress theme such as Twenty Twenty or Storefront active.
    2. No other plugins except for WooCommerce and WooCommerce Google Analytics Integration active.

    I don’t seem to be able to enable UA unless I disable Global Site Tag, and that will apparently disconnect GA4 – is that right?

    Aha – does that mean I can’t track add_to_cart events properly in GA4? We aren’t using UA any longer as it is being deprecated.

    Our development team is aware of the planned depreciation of Universal Analytics. It is due to be deprecated in July 2023 — an update would be made to the extension before that.
