Hi,

Love this brilliant plugin. I only have a very specific issue:

The word “Inde” (India in French) is wrongly turned into Inde. Clearly, the last three chars are interpreted as “nde” which is the abbreviation for “2nde” (seconde in French). As it is located in a template, I can’t set it to a noTypo class because I need it for other contents.

So is there a way to add this word “Inde” to an exception list, much like the hyphenation exception list?

Ch.

No, but there’s a setting for that: Just uncheck “Include Roman numbers” under the “Ordinal numbers” heading (on the “Intelligent Character Replacement” tab).

Ah, but I need those roman numbers! I want them to turn “XXe siècle” to “XXe siècle” cause I have them all over the place ——the Website is for a French history book editor.

I found a workaround, but it really is a bad trick. I’d prefer not to use it but until there’s a better way ——like adding an exception list? ??—— this will do: I’ve simply added the character ‌ between In and de: In‌de. Not good for the search functionality but at least it’s visually correct.

Thanks for your reply.

Ah, I see. I’ll add it as feature request for the underlying library (PHP-Typography), but I don’t know when I’ll get around to that. Might be some time.

(Though I’m glad someone’s using the Roman numerals superscript feature – I really liked the idea when I implemented it, but having incorrect matches like this one led me to doubt the wisdom of doing so. I had to hurriedly introduce a separate setting so that people can at least choose whether they want their content to be broken by my plugin.)

Hi Pepe,

Well, sadly I had to disable the Roman numerals feature cause it turns out there’re many posts with the word “Inde” (French for India) in their title in the catalog so I can’t register exceptions for them all.

So please, keep in mind to add this feature in a release soon enough!

Thanks,
Ch.

I’ve added an enhancement issue for the PHP-Typography library. Still no timeline, though. If you’ve got any suggestions regarding the feature, @charlyp, we should discuss them on GitHub.
