I am working on a site which has a woocommerce shop, there are many custom attributes such as “time period”, “colour” etc and as it is, every time I add a new product I have to select which attributes I want to use which is quite time consuming as there are hundreds of products and each one will have all of these attraibutes set.

What I am looking for is a way that by default when I add a product, all attribute fields are already added (not the value of the attribute, just the fact that the product has an attribute at all).

    Hope someone can help!

Create a base product with the options, then use the ‘duplicate’ button to create copies. Duplicate is next to the publish button when editing.

Hi Mike and thanks for the reply, I thought about doing this, but when I create a base product, the attributes values don’t save unless I select something for the attribute. To do it this way I would need to select some attribute values for each attribute on the base product and then de-select this for the duplicated products.

To be clear, if I add the custom attributes for the base product but don’t select any attribute values or choose “select none” this will not be stored when product is saved – the added attributes will disappear unless you choose something which would then need to be de-selected on most of the duplicated products.

Right, you’d need to pre-select some options, but that would at least save time when duplicating/creating a new product.

This solution works for me although I’d prefer if the attributes were empty by default.

Is there any way of having the attributes expanded by default?

Not now, but we’ll be reviewing the UI for variations and attributes in a near future release.

@mikejolley any update son this? as have a ton of sites that would love that feature of tell what attributes are set as defaults end their text boxes being empty for the users to fill in rather then re-adding on each new product.

@mikejolley I really need this functionality too! Need to streamline the edit page for vendors so that the standard attributes for each product are already there rather than adding each attribute every time a new product is created!

Hope we can see this feature soon in a new update!

    Keep up the excellent work.

I’m also waiting for this. Preset attributes..
We have 10+ attributes per item that we have to add on each product.

    Hope to see it soon!

    Thank you!
