• When I choose “select options” (https://prntscr.com/g13qm2) it does not allow me to select any options, but just takes me to the product page. That’s all fine. What I”m asking is how does the add to cart button differ in terms of ACTING AS A LINK from the select options button. They both appear to be coded the same so I want to know why one does act as a true link and the other does not. What prevents the add to cart from being followed by search engines?

  • The one where you can add to cart is simple product, the one where you cant – variable. Woocommerce is unable to know which variation you want to add to your cart so you have to select it first.
