Add to Cart Button within Image Gallery Captions

Using image galleries, I would like to include the Add to Cart button within the caption text. What is the best way to do this? I’ve tried putting the shortcode within the caption, but that is not working. Since I have many image galleries already setup, I’d prefer not to use the NexGen plugin. Any solutions would be appreciated.
