Add support for AVIF images

    Hello.
    Do you plan to add support for AVIF images because it uses Av1 codec compression which is much better than for webP images which uses vp8 codec?

    Hi @ignace72,

    Sounds like a good feature request so we’ll go ahead and register it.
    The only things to mention is that’d require PHP 8.1 at the minimum and GD must be compiled with support enabled). It would be a lot like WebP though; it can’t be used with WHCC and we can’t write metadata to it when dynamically generating images.

    Oh yes, it’s problematic, this PHP thing. On my Debian 11 server, I tried to install PHP 8.1 without success (well, it was installed but not working).
    Well, maybe with Debian 12… This version of Debian is planned for mid-2023.
