• Hi,

When you go to configure the firewall, you get the note below:

NOTE: If you have separate WordPress installations with Wordfence installed within a subdirectory of this site, it is recommended that you perform the Firewall installation procedure on those sites before this one.

      My question is:

We plan to add more subdomains for sites we develop in the future — yet we will have already configured the firewall on the master domain — how will these new sites be affected when we add Wordfence, per the note above?

Thanks in advance for your reply,

    Kristy

  • Hi Kristy,
It’s recommended to configure the firewall for websites in sub-directories first, to exclude the possibility of any conflict that could happen in paths of some files either in “wordfence-waf.php” or “.htaccess” and to avoid “file not found errors” on some web hosts, so in your case you can use the “Remove Extended Protection” button in (Wordfence > Firewall) for the main website, then configure the firewall for subdomains and finally you can re-configure the firewall on the root website again.

    Thanks.

Thank you! I feel so bad, I have searched and searched, and I can’t find that button. Is it included in the recent plugin update? If so, can you please send me a screenshot?

No problem, it’s at the bottom of the firewall page right after “Whitelisted URLs”, please check this screenshot.

P.S. make sure you are on the first tab “Web Application Firewall” on (Wordfence > Firewall) page.

    Thanks.

Ah, thanks for the screenshot! Is this a premium feature? My Wordfence has been updated to 6.3.3, but I don’t have that button. Below is a screenshot:

No, it’s not a premium feature, on the same page please check “Protection Level” at the top of the page as it seems that the firewall isn’t configured on this website, if it was configured correctly, you should see “Protection Level > Extended Protection” and the button should be there, otherwise if you have the “Protection Level > Basic WordPress Protection” there is no reason to show the button there.

    Thanks.
