Hello, we have been using the Pro version of the plug-in for years.

Google recommends to use the new attribute “rel=sponsored” for affiliate links.

Would there be a way to add this option to the plug-in – preferably with the option to change all existing pretty links from “nofollow” to “sponsored”?

  • hello,
yes this option is now important, is it possible to have it for the free version too ?
    Thanks

Yes I agree – definitely keen on this feature.

Any news on this guys? Seems to be an urgent matter to avoid penalties.

Yes, the next release will have an option for Sponsored when adding links.

Support for “sponsored” has been added in version 3.1.0 FYI

    Thank the developers for that.

Not clear from Google’s description whether I should be changing the nofollow to sponsored or adding sponsored – nofollow previously recommended & still acceptable though sponsored if preferred.

It would be helpful, for existing users with lots of affiliate links, to add attribute settings as bulk actions.

    Thanks,too.

We would also be grateful for an option for a mass change.

Otherwise we would have to change thousands of links on a dozen websites all by hand.

I would still recommend leaving nofollow enabled (in addition to sponsored) on links you don’t want indexed as the nofollow option also adds noindex parameter when enabled.

    Thanks again for the advice.

Is there a chance for a “mass change” option or is it better to get to work right now and change all the links manually?

You can use the bulk edit feature on the links list to enable the sponsored tag in bulk. You’d do it for each page.

The sponsored tag is set in the http response header so it’s not necessary to go through and edit the html in your existing content unless you really want to.

Hehehehe – sometimes you cannot see the forest because of the many trees! Thanks!

@cartpauj is there no way to mark these as sponsored and noindex, without nofollow?

Can I use more than one rel value on a link?
Yes, you can use more than one rel value on a link. For example, rel=”ugc sponsored” is a perfectly valid attribute which hints that the link came from user-generated content and is sponsored. It’s also valid to use nofollow with the new attributes — such as rel=”nofollow ugc” — if you wish to be backwards-compatible with services that don’t support the new attributes.
