Add previously uploaded image to gallery

I have what I thought would be a very simple task. I need to add some previously uploaded images that are not associated with any gallery to a post. I needed them associated with that post’s gallery. So far, I have been unable to determine how to do that, short of uploading them again. Is there a way to insert a previously uploaded image into a post’s gallery?
